FACILITIES FOR STUDENTS AND EFFECTIVELY CONNECTED UNIVERSITY
The students are provided with unique and economical facilities by the university. The university is connected effectively to its networks around the globe with more purpose-oriented approach.
The virtual center will act as a repository and clearing-house for literature, databases, statistical sources, research results and discussion documents relevant to particular fields of research. The virtual center will provide a valuable service to the wider research community/students by creating searchable databases. This will be available online to registered users. Information will be gathered regularly from various published sources including government statistics and reports, academic and professional journals, trade publications and websites, books, consultancy reports and conference proceedings. Key researchers in the field, with whom the university is extensively networked around the world, will be invited to submit details of their research results to ensure that the database is kept as comprehensive and up-to-date as possible.
The virtual center will also perform other important roles as well. For example, it will act as the main interface between the research consortium and interested parties in academic, business and governmental circles. It will also facilitate networking between members of the research consortium.
This is a small facility containing few computers and a staff of 1-2 workers. The soft copies of various books related to the different disciplines taught in the university are maintained and stored. The students can have soft copies of the desired books for very economical price and will have chance to study on their personal computers, laptops etc. at any place when they want to. The library may also keep soft copies of scientific articles, journals and other academic stuffs.
Generally study in each semester requires different set of books and after the completion of the semester, the books are almost useless for students or they are not read for ages. Students pay large costs for these books which are useful/ required only for a certain period of time.
My idea is that there should be a book bank within the university containing selected books required by the students in each semester of all the disciplines taught in the university. The book bank will provide the students the books for the period of one semester. The students will be charged an amount equal to, for example, 5 percent of the cost of the books issued. The students will return the books at the end of the semester. The books will be issued at the start of each semester but there will be flexibility in issuing the books at any instance during the semester as well. At the end of the semester, students will be notified to return books on a particular date set for each department.
This facility will be for both students and the teaching staff. The teaching staff may not pay any cost as per university rule.
This library will provide books for shorter period of time, say for a week or a month. Students who like to study books at home or at their rooms will be enjoying this facility too much. With this facility, the operation timings of the common library will no more be the constraining factor in study of the students. The books will be subject to re-issue after the allocated issuance period, depending on the student desire whether or not he/she wants to keep it for another issuance period.
This facility will also resolve the space limitation problem at the central/common library during the examination period due to the increased number of students.
LOCAL KITCHEN FACILITY:
Students, specifically international students, have always desire to have their regional food items but it is not usually available at the university canteen or the market. So they are forced to accept the menu available at the canteen or cafeteria etc.
My idea is to provide a small size kitchen facility at the hostel or any other suitable place within the university where these interested students will prepare the desired foods and other items like juices etc. for themselves. This will also resolve the issue of vegetarians or non-vegetarians. Moreover a cook may also be employed to serve these students and the salary will be paid by the students.
